COMPETITION ENTRY

CULTURAL

This competition entry addresses two critical architectural and urban planning challenges for the design of an underground multi-storey parking structure on the grounds of the old G.C.P. Stadium.

The first challenge lies in ensuring a harmonious relationship between the new development and the historic centre of the town, preserving the integrity and character of the area while introducing a modern structure. The second challenge concerns the architectural language and character of the building, balancing functionality with aesthetic form and construction techniques.

The design aims to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding environment while serving its primary function as a parking facility. The structure's integration into the town's fabric is enhanced by the careful selection of materials and its scale, ensuring that it complements rather than overwhelms the historic context.

In addition to its functional role, the design seeks to engage the public and become a dynamic part of the urban landscape. The creation of hanging gardens and waterfalls within the "canyon" formed by the parking structure acts as both an environmental filter and a visual amenity.

These features help to absorb fumes and dust while providing a cooler microclimate in the immediate vicinity. The use of trees, greenery, water, and wind to trap humidity and purify the air not only enhances the environment but also improves the overall quality of life for those in the surrounding area.

This project reflects a commitment to both functionality and sustainability, combining innovative design with a strong sense of place. The parking structure is not only a practical solution but also an architectural statement that contributes to the urban ecosystem, promoting a cleaner, more vibrant public space.
