One of the many uses requested for us to design inside the Columbia Plaza project was a live music and night club venue which spans over 200sq.m. with a 4 meter high ceiling located on the 1st floor of the complex.
The interior design layout of this venue is focused around a one centralised oval bar which with the bar seating and 2 elevated wings on either side with lower lounge seating thus adopting an amphitheatrical aspect to allow unobstructed view to the performances on the main stage.
At both ends of the linear open plan space is a timber and fabric panelling which not only acts as additional sound proofing qualities but also conceals a private cinema room with a capacity of 12 persons and cigar smoking lounge decorated with irokko panelling and soft leather furnishings.
A key design element of the space is the floor-to-ceiling double-skin glazing system, which functions as both a thermal and acoustic buffer. This high-performance façade mitigates external noise intrusion while enhancing energy efficiency, ensuring minimal disruption to both occupants and the surrounding urban fabric.
Further reinforcing the acoustic strategy, a series of precision-engineered microfiber roller blinds are integrated within the interior, cascading vertically to provide additional sound attenuation and light modulation. Complemented by a carefully curated palette of soft furnishings, these elements collectively absorb and diffuse sound, establishing an acoustically balanced environment reminiscent of a recording studio—ideal for live performances.
Given the extensive mechanical and electrical requirements of such spaces, all technical services have been strategically concentrated within the ceiling, ensuring streamlined access for maintenance and future upgrades in response to the evolving technologies of sound and lighting.
The ceiling itself is designed as a suspended grid system composed of perforated panels, seamlessly integrating cut-outs for lighting tracks, speakers, and ventilation. Finished in a semi-matte black, the ceiling recedes into the background, minimizing visual distraction and enhancing the immersive experience during performances.
