The restaurant at Columbia Plaza is a fine dining venue designed to accommodate approximately 200 guests. The design incorporates an open kitchen concept, allowing diners to view the cooking process and creating a more interactive atmosphere.
The space occupies what was once the main showroom of Humper Cars, featuring a generous five-metre-high ceiling. The ceiling treatment stands out with its bold use of a deep rose-toned perforated surface punctuated by circular acoustic panels and dramatic laser cut basket-weave structures that conceal the pendant lights. These elements not only add visual interest but also contribute to the acoustic comfort of the space.
The layout includes a welcome bar and an open grill kitchen, both of which are visible from the main dining area. Large, five-metre-high dividing doors allow the restaurant to separate the main dining space from a smoking lounge which features a whiskey bar and a fireplace.
The flooring is made from saw-cut oak and treated in four different finishes to give the space a subtle variety in texture and tone. Special attention was given to the lighting design, which works with the multicoloured glazed panels to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, both during the day and at night.
The main dining area includes a mix of soft and hard furnishings, sourced in collaboration with Thesis Furniture Showrooms. Seating is upholstered in a variety of colours and textures, and the lighting fixtures and wooden screens help divide into smaller more intimate dining areas. A long water feature runs between the interior and the shaded outdoor piazza, visually linking the indoor and outdoor dining experiences.
