This project presented an exciting challenge to elevate the central stairwell of the villa into a sculptural and experiential piece, rather than simply incorporating a conventional chandelier.
Drawing inspiration from the villa's seafront location and the natural world, we conceptualized the design as a dynamic, illuminated representation of a shoal of fish—symbolizing unity and movement.
The installation comprises 2,500 hand-blown glass fish, each suspended delicately from a central, highly polished stainless steel structure using precision yacht rigging techniques. The structure supports the lighting elements and integrates seamlessly with the architecture of the space.
At each level, approximately 30 LED lights are encapsulated in glass bubbles, evoking the image of oxygen bubbles in water, while translucent yellow objects symbolize sea bacteria and coral, adding a layer of complexity and richness to the design.
Collaborating with Czech artist Jiri Pacinek and lighting manufacturers LASVIT, we ensured that every element of the installation was meticulously crafted. The assembly, carried out by Polish yacht rigging experts, required the design of custom scaffolding to navigate the ornate 17.5-meter staircase, ensuring the installation could take place without disrupting the function of the space.
The final result is a central sculptural installation that transforms the stairwell into an immersive, sensory experience. As guests ascend or descend the 17.5-meter staircase, the illuminated artwork creates a moment of pause, slowing their movement and drawing attention to the intricate details of the design. The light source, with its delicate glass fish and soft glow, encourages a deeper appreciation of the space, offering a unique experience that resonates emotionally.
This sculptural art piece not only enhances the architectural presence of the stairwell but also adds an element of joy and wonder to the journey, leaving a lasting impression on those who pass through
