For this project, our client had purchased an existing incomplete house purely on the basis of its stunning seafront location and not its architectural quality, with the plot boundary extending right up to the water edge located on the outskirts of Paphos, in Peyia area.
The client’s brief was to convert the existing building into a functional and comfortable summer residence for family use, making the most of the plot’s exceptional proximity to the sea.
The interior of the villa was redesigned to bring greater clarity and functionality to the original layout. A central double-height space was introduced at the entrance to improve natural light and create a more open feel in what was previously a dark and segmented plan. The upper floor is accessed via a gallery that overlooks the living area, allowing for visual connection between levels and contributing to a more connected spatial experience.
The interior design uses natural materials such as irokko timber used throughout to add warmth and texture, while a neutral palette helps maintain a calm and understated atmosphere. Large sliding openings connect the living spaces to the outdoor terraces, encouraging a natural flow between inside and out.
The renovation extended beyond the main structure to include the surrounding landscape. Two new pavilion structures were added—one housing a lounge and games room, and the other a small gym. Designed with floor-to-ceiling glazing on three sides, the pavilions maintain a close relationship with the garden and allow for an indoor-outdoor experience while remaining sheltered and shaded.
The existing swimming pool was redesigned as an infinity-edge pool with an additional shallow catchment area, creating a more child-friendly environment. A series of landscaped terraces, fabric canopies, and carefully positioned viewpoints were introduced to provide shaded outdoor living areas and take advantage of the panoramic sea views.
The result is a considered and practical summer home that subtly enhances its setting while meeting the client’s needs for relaxation and family gathering.
