The Island Project
LIMASSOL SEAFRONT
MIXED USE
Located approximately 300 meters off the southern coast of Limassol, this proposed offshore platform introduces a modest yet meaningful addition to the town’s maritime character. Designed to complement recent civic and infrastructure improvements along the shoreline, the project aims to create a multi-functional space that supports both public and research-oriented activities.
The design proposal will accommodate a small selection of programmatic elements including a restaurant, a café, a modest event venue for civic and private use, and a marine biology institute focused on regional research. In addition, a weather and rescue control point will support the growing volume of leisure boat traffic in the bay.
A breakwater will provide protection for visiting yachts, and a lightweight, elevated pedestrian bridge will link the shore and parking area directly to the platform’s roof terrace. From there, visitors can access the lower levels via integrated ramps, lifts, and stairs that extend to sea level.
The overall vision is to create a simple, functional intervention that enhances Limassol’s coastal identity while promoting research, recreation, and maritime safety in a balanced and sustainable manner.
