This house is one of several linear-plan residences designed by our office for elevated coastal sites with southern sea views. The layout follows a straightforward concept: all main rooms are arranged in a linear sequence, one after the other, so that each space enjoys the same uninterrupted view. This approach not only makes the most of the site’s natural orientation but also creates a clear and simple flow through the home.
The client requested a traditional clay-tiled sloping roof, which influenced the overall form of the building. To support this, we designed angled side walls made from locally sourced stone. These walls were placed at either end of the structure and designed to appear as if they are emerging from or settling into the landscape. Their mass and texture contrast with the lighter roof above and help visually anchor the building to the site.
Natural materials were used throughout, including stone, plaster, and timber, all chosen for their durability and connection to the local context. The building is designed to work passively with the climate, with shaded outdoor areas, carefully positioned openings for cross-ventilation, and solid walls that help regulate indoor temperatures.
The garden was designed with a Mediterranean landscape in mind, using drought-tolerant plants that are native or well adapted to the region. A new tennis court and pavilion were also added to the site. These are set into the landscape in a way that minimizes their impact on the view and keeps them connected in style and material to the main house.
This project balances simple planning with careful attention to site, materials, and climate—resulting in a house that is practical, welcoming, and rooted in its setting.
